Dorothy R. Bailey Hoover,  86, formerly of Overland Park, KS, went to be with her Lord Jesus on July 15, 2016 in Orangevale, CA.  She was born in Bridgeport, IL to Marie Foster Bailey and Samuel Meade Bailey who were both ordained pastors.  After attending Phillips University, Dorothy married John Jacob Hoover Jr. in 1949 in Enid, OK and raised three children in Overland Park, KS.  After 23 years of service with the federal government, she retired from the Social Security Administration, also having worked for the IRS in Kansas City and the Dept. of the Army at Fort Riley, KS.  After retirement to La Cygne, KS, Dorothy and John auctioned off most of their belongings, sold their home, and went to Christ for the Nations Institute in Dallas, TX, to prepare to become missionaries.  After two and half years of study,  serving two summers at a Bible school in Jamaica, two months smuggling Bibles into mainland China from Hong Kong on a daily basis, and other short term trips, they graduated and were ordained.  They served three years in the Philippines conducting Bible Schools which train pastors and lay leaders.  They were instrumental in founding Calvary Bible Colleges in the Philippines, which are taught by native pastors.  Six schools have graduated over 120 students who evangelize unreached tribes in northern Luzon.  After returning from the Philippines, Dorothy resumed her active membership in Full Faith Church of Love (now Cross Points Church) of Shawnee, KS, where she lead the Fifty Plus Fellowship for several years and was part of the Women's Prayer Ministry. After moving to California, Dorothy was an active member of Abundant Life Fellowship in Mountain View, CA.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years and her elder son Alan.  She is survived by a daughter Jan Hoover and her husband Ray Olszewski of Citrus Heights, CA, a son Ted Hoover of Raymore, MO, and a daughter-in-law Becky Hoover of Olathe, KS, and four grandchildren, Greg Olszewski, Jamie Hoover Colbert, Brenda Hoover Fleshman and Thomas J. Hoover and three great grandchildren, Malachi Colbert, Jackson Fleshman and Lincoln Fleshman.

A family memorial service will be held at the annual Hoover family reunion, which John and Dorothy began in 1972, in June, 2017.  Cards may be sent to Ted Hoover, 106 S. Johnston Dr., Raymore, MO 64083
