Robert Calvin Mathews

On May 21, 2016, Robert C. Mathews passed very peacefully at home to be with the Angels in Heaven. Bob was born on July 3, 1925 in Lexington, Oklahoma.  He is survived by his loving wife Dorothy (Sammons) Mathews, his three daughters, one son, along with his brother, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Interment will be at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery. Bob lived a most amazing life full of experience and adventure. He was a World War II Navy combat vet, and served most of the war on the USS Chenango, an escort carrier involved in many major battles in the Pacific. After the war, he went on to be a butcher in a local market; haul hay and tomatoes for the family farm in Dixon, California; was a cattle rancher, and worked at Aerojet General during the Apollo Space Program making solid and liquid fuels for the rocket boosters and engines. But he is best remembered for being a loving husband to his wife Dorothy for over 68 years. He was also an awesome father, and nothing came before his family.  He was our hero, our mentor, our rock.  He was a true Patriarch in every sense.  He was known as the “Cookie Man” by many and loved to take his one of a kind treats to the people he enjoyed most in his life. He will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by all of his family and friends.

On June 1, 2016, a Celebration of Life will be held in Bob's honor at the Arcade Creek Manor apartment complex clubhouse, 6546 Auburn Blvd from 2-4pm.
