Gladys Rasberry Obituary

Gladys Bee Rasberry, age 86, died from complications from diabetes and cancer on July 26, 2019, in Sacramento, California.

She is survived by her son, Carl Rasberry, of Albuquerque, NM; her son, Lynn (Sue) Rasberry, of Sacramento, CA; and her daughter, Cheryl (Lee) Goffigon of Corpus Christi, TX. She is also survived by grandchildren Tamon Rasberry, Kareem (Kristina) Goffigon and Keiland Goffigon, her granddog Milo, Aunt Agnus, great-grandchildren, Alicia and Oscar, and numerous nieces and nephews. 

Gladys was born on February 8, 1933 in San Antonio, TX, to parents Booker and Rose Bee. She was adopted and raised by her Aunt Kitty Mae and Uncle Allen McQueen.  She graduated from St. Philip’s College in San Antonio, TX.  She worked a variety of jobs in Texas while raising her children, and moved to Sacramento, CA in 1971, where she worked as a social worker for a time but then changed her career and became an elevator operator for the State Assembly, which she retired from in 1991.

She was an active church member until the final two years of her life and continued her strong faith in God until the end of her life.

Gladys was loved by many because of her personality, strong will, honesty, and a heart of giving and caring.

She is preceded in death by her siblings: Elizabeth Brown, Georgia Lee Brewer, Jane Pattie Bee, Margaret Frances Bee, Ethel M. Miles, Booker T. Bee, and Virgie E. Pinnix.

A memorial service is scheduled for Thursday, August 1, 2019, at her church, St. James Holy Missionary Baptist Church, 3624 Stockton Boulevard, Sacramento, CA with a reception to follow. Pastor Essex Hubbard will officiate. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Gladys’ life.

The family would like to thank Annette Tillis, her longtime special friend, Kaiser Medical Staff and RC Hospice Care for their compassionate care.
