Marilyn Porter Obituary

Marilyn L. Porter

April 23, 1938 – February 1, 2021

Marilyn Lucile Porter, age 82, passed away at her home in Rancho Cordova, CA on Monday February 1, 2021 as a result of cancer.  Marilyn is survived by her loving husband Walter Porter of 40 years.  Much loved mother of Yvonne Pielenz (Aaron Smart) and Greg Pielenz (Trish); grandmother of Ian and Jeremy Smart and Malachi and Declan Pielenz; sister of Robert Evans (Janet).  She was preceded in death by her brother, Russell Evans, sister-in-law, Geraldine Evans, and her parents, Howard and Lauretta Evans. Remembered by many cousins, nieces and nephews, and friends.

Marilyn was born in Sacramento, grew up in Roseville, and graduated from Roseville High School in 1956.  She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Liberal Studies from CSU Chico.  She worked for 25 years at McClellan AFB.  She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, photography, music, art, movies, and especially travel – road trips to many states, cruises, and flights to foreign countries: Paris, Hungary, Serbia, Bulgaria, Romania, Hong Kong, China, Panama Canal, Jamaica, Bahamas, Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Chile, Ecuador, Costa Rica, and Machu Picchu in Peru.  A favorite destination was Hawaii. She loved family reunions, playing cards (Pinochle) with friends, and coffee get-togethers. In her youth, she was involved in Camp Fire Girls and continued to meet annually with this group of friends.

Marilyn loved her family and instilled in her children strong values that have served them well. She is dearly missed and forever in our hearts and minds.  A celebration of life is planned for 4/24/2021 at the Granite Bay Activity Center; please contact the family for more details.  Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, WEAVE, or the SPCA.  Thank you to RC Hospice for all the wonderful care and support they provided.
