My dearest Brother, Rich,

It’s been just shy of a year since you left this earthly realm and joined our ancestors in Valhalla. It is never easy to say good-bye. I’m sorry it has taken so long to write this. My heart has not been ready to accept this loss…the loss of you. I’m still not ready…

I still can’t bring myself to say good-bye. I suppose it is why you and I have always said, “See ya on the other side or See ya soon!” When I say your passing has been difficult, I am being honest. Everyone, every life, you have ever touched has felt your absence. Thank you for being the light, despite being in your own darkness. My heart hurts knowing none of us could be the luminous light you needed to find your way.

Not a day goes by without you being brought up in conversation. Some days we laugh, especially when we talk about your Smurfs drum set or ET bicycle. Other days, I cry when I talk about you, me, and the honeysuckle vines in our backyard back home in Virginia.

The memories we have together I will share with your nieces and nephews, your kids and whomever else will listen! Your memory and your life will live on.

I love you, Pooder. You will always be my ride or die, my baby brother, and a royal thorn in my side. I wouldn’t have it any other way!

Rest easy, sweet brother. See you under the honeysuckle vines…
