Sheila Murphy Holcomb
Born August 7th 1950 and raised in Independence Iowa. Upon graduating from High School, Sheila attended Allen Nursing School and attained her Registered Nurse License. Sheila joined the U.S. Army as a Second Lieutenant and volunteered to serve a year in Vietnam. While in Vietnam, Sheila met Tom Holcomb, a Helicopter Ambulance Pilot also in the Army. Upon returning from Vietnam, Shelia followed Tom to Ft Lewis Washington. Sheila and Tom were married at the Ft. Lewis chapel on June 30th 1973. While in Washington Sheila worked as an RN for the VA and at the Hospital at Fort Lewis. When Tom’s service was completed, they moved to Northern California where Sheila worked as an RN doing patient home visits and delivered twin boys Mike and Wes. Living in Sonoma County Sheila completed the courses required for her BS in Nursing. After graduating Sheila worked for VNA as a visiting nurse and delivered a third son, Andrew, in Sacramento. Sheila went on to get her Masters in Nursing and started working for Sacramento State University as a Public Nurse Instructor. While instructing at CSUS, Sheila enrolled to get her doctorate in Education working tirelessly at night until the early morning hours after her children and day jobs, receiving her Doctorate from the University of Phoenix in 2009. Sheila also worked as a School Nurse since the early 90’s for the San Juan and Folsom Cordova School Districts. Sheila retired from Sacramento State and from the Folsom Cordova School District in 2016. She has had an immeasurable impact on countless children and future nurses over her career.
Sheila was preceded in death by her Parents Bud and Sally Murphy and her younger brother Mike Murphy. She is survived by her brother Ray Murphy, sisters Cheryl Winter, Patty Webster, Kelly Murphy, siblings in laws Nancy Murphy, Billie Jean Kovalcheck, Chris Murphy, Bill Winter and Randy Jones, husband of 48 years Tom Holcomb, her three sons Mike, Wes, and A.J. Holcomb, her three daughters in law Lindsay, Jaimie and Krystal Holcomb. She is also survived by her 6 grandchildren, Cali, Emma, Colin, Gwen, Izabell, and Fiona Holcomb.
Sheila will be remembered for her tenacity as well as her kindness, caring and understanding nature by her family and friends. We all love her very much and miss her smile.
Memorial Service will be held at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon, Ca. at 12:30 on October 22,2021. Sheila's friends and coworkers are welcome to attend. The Service will finish at 1:00, and we will have a Celebration of Life for Sheila at Frasinetties from 2:00 to 5:00.
