Viola Sue Nix

Her name was Viola S. Nix, Sue to many, but Granny to most, especially her loving great-grand children.  Born on a farm in rural Georgia in the early days of the roaring twenties, she was too young to experience the highlife of the twenties, but old enough to experience the Great Depression of the 1930s.  While her parents may have been trying for boys to help with the farm work, they got one boy, and six girls, and everyone worked.  The farm provided ample food, but the times were hard.

Sue graduated from High School a year early, and soon thereafter left the farm to work for a relative in Gainesville, Florida.  There she met and married a handsome young man, Henry D. Nix.  Henry grew up in a small town literally next door to Sue’s farm home, but they did not meet until each ended up in Florida.  Henry was an Air Force pilot-in-training, and after the end of WW II, they led the semi-nomadic life of an Air Force Officer with family.  She claims to have established 32 households in their travels, and it is probably accurate.

Eventually they settled in Sacramento where Henry was involved in a Top Secret military program and she played bridge.

They also found time to raise two children, Daniel, and Claudia.

Sue had a long life of 97 years, and passed away peacefully on August 14, 2019 in Sacramento, CA.
